This policy explains what personal data Selmo collects, why, and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, phone number and a securely hashed password.
- Seller details: business name, store content, WhatsApp number and payout bank account.
- Orders: what was bought, delivery address, contact details and payment references. Card details are handled by Paystack; Selmo never sees or stores them.
- Identity verification (support agents, and sellers who choose to verify): full name, NIN, a live selfie and, for agents, a passport photograph. NINs are stored encrypted and only Selmo’s administrator can view them.
- Disputes: what you tell us about a problem, and notes from our calls.
- Security logs: sign-in attempts and IP addresses, to protect accounts from password guessing.
- Ad pixels: if a seller adds Meta, TikTok or Snapchat pixels to their store, those companies receive visit and purchase events from that store under their own privacy policies.
Why we use it
- To run stores, take payments, deliver order alerts and pay sellers.
- To hold and release Buyer Protection payments and to resolve disputes.
- To verify identities and prevent fraud.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
- Paystack (payments, payouts, refunds).
- Meta (WhatsApp) and our email provider, to send order and delivery messages.
- An identity-verification provider, if we use one to check NINs and selfies.
- Our hosting and error-monitoring providers, who process data only on our instructions.
- Buyers and sellers see each other’s contact and delivery details for their orders.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
We do not sell personal data.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept for as long as the law requires for financial records. Identity-verification images and NINs are kept while the account is active and deleted within a reasonable period after it is closed, unless we must keep them for fraud or legal reasons.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy. Email privacy@selmo.ng. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
