These terms apply to everyone who uses Selmo: businesses that open a store (“sellers”), people who buy from them (“buyers”), and visitors. By creating an account, opening a store, or paying through Selmo, you agree to them.
1. What Selmo does
- Store Builder: sellers get an online store, take payments through Paystack, and manage orders and invoices.
- Selmo Market with Buyer Protection: buyers pay Selmo, and Selmo only pays the seller after the buyer confirms their order arrived, as described in section 5.
Payments are processed by Paystack. Selmo is not a bank.
2. Accounts
- You must give accurate information and keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- You must be at least 18 years old to open a store.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, are used for fraud, or put buyers or sellers at risk.
3. Fees
- Signup fee: ₦8,000.00, charged once to open a new store — includes a free .com.ng domain, registered on your behalf. New stores get their first 2 days free. After that, the store fee is ₦5,000.00 per month to keep it open. Nothing is charged automatically — if you don't pay, your store simply goes offline until you do, and reopens as soon as you pay. Payments already made are not refundable.
- Standard store sales and invoices: 2% of each sale, deducted before the seller is paid.
- Selmo Market Buyer Protection: the buyer pays a 2% buyer-protection fee on top of the price. This fee is non-refundable, including when an order is refunded.
- Selmo Market release fee: 2% of the order amount, deducted when the payment is released to the seller.
- Paystack’s own processing charges are separate from Selmo’s fees.
- We may change fees. Changes apply to new orders only, never to orders already paid.
4. Standard store sales
When a buyer pays in a seller’s own store (not through Selmo Market Buyer Protection), Paystack pays the seller directly, minus Selmo’s fee. Delivery, returns and refunds for these sales are between the buyer and the seller.
5. Selmo Market Buyer Protection (escrow)
- Payment is held. The buyer pays Selmo the price plus the 2% buyer-protection fee. Selmo holds the payment. The seller is not paid yet.
- Delivery. The seller sends the order and stays in contact with the buyer. When the buyer has received it, the seller confirms delivery on Selmo. A seller must only confirm delivery once the goods have actually reached the buyer.
- Buyer asked to confirm. As soon as the seller confirms delivery, Selmo asks the buyer by email and WhatsApp to either Confirm receipt or Report a problem.
- Confirm receipt. When the buyer confirms, the payment is released to the seller (minus the 2% release fee). This cannot be undone.
- No response. If the buyer does not respond within 2 days of the seller confirming delivery, Selmo sends a reminder by email and WhatsApp. If there is still no response 1 day after the reminder, a Selmo agent tries to call the buyer once. If the buyer confirms, cannot be reached, or does not answer, the payment is released to the seller. If the buyer reports a problem on the call, section 6 applies.
- Report a problem. The buyer may report a problem at any time before the payment is released. Reporting freezes the payment. It is not released by any timer while a Selmo agent reviews it.
6. Disputes and refunds
A Selmo agent reviews every reported problem and decides one of the following:
- Wrong or damaged item: the buyer is asked to send the item back to the seller, following the return instructions Selmo gives. The refund is issued only after the seller confirms on Selmo that the returned package reached them.
- Order never sent: if Selmo finds, after discussing it with the seller, that the order was never sent, the buyer is refunded.
- Complaint not upheld: if the evidence does not support the complaint, or the buyer does not return the item as instructed, the payment is released to the seller.
Refunds are for the order amount only. The 2% buyer-protection fee is not refunded. Refunds go back to the card or account used to pay and may take several working days to arrive, depending on the bank.
Sellers who falsely confirm delivery, refuse to accept returns, or repeatedly cause disputes may be suspended.
7. Seller responsibilities
- List only items you have the right to sell, describe them honestly, and price them in naira.
- Deliver what was ordered, in the condition described.
- Do not sell prohibited, counterfeit, stolen or illegal goods, or anything that needs a licence you do not have.
- Keep your payout bank details correct. Selmo is not responsible for payments sent to details you provided.
8. Verified badge
The gold “Verified” badge means Selmo has checked the seller’s identity (NIN and a live selfie). It does not mean Selmo guarantees their products. Verification is optional.
9. Liability
Selmo provides the platform and, for Selmo Market orders, holds payments as described above. Beyond that, sales are between buyers and sellers. To the extent the law allows, Selmo is not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability for any order is limited to the fees Selmo received for that order.
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms. We’ll tell sellers by email before important changes take effect. Questions: support@selmo.ng. See also our Privacy Policy.
